Cuneiform Linux 0.5 is released, with Windows support

I have just released Cuneiform Linux 0.5. For the first time it now also works on Windows (though only with MinGW, and there are a few gotchas) The official release text is here.

Now that this port works on Win32 too, maybe we could join the different efforts. If some Cognitive people would have a comment, I'd be glad to discuss it. I think having a single code branch would be beneficial for everybody.

I built Win32 MinGW version (without ImageMagick) and now trying to build xNix version (under Mandriva) to compare recognition results with initial Win32 version. I think having a single code branch would be beneficial for everybody too. Do you have any plans?

I haven't heard from them lately. The MSVC thing is important, and is
what I'm going to focus on next. The reason I did not do it yet is
that I wanted to get the release out ASAP.

So the closest objective is to backport the code to MSVC and merge the code bases, then finally clean up 64bit support. After that... who knows, there is A LOT of work to be done on the documentation side and SDK (see Russian forums), and of course I think the code needs a well-thought refactoring. Well, speaking of myself, I can't help with porting to MSVC, but I'm trying to help anyways by following the bug tracker, bzr checking builds on Ubuntu etc.

Looking forward to hearing from you on what's going on at Cognitive.

I'd like to know what work has been done on the core (not the GUI) the Windows side. Have there been any new developments that need to be merged to the Linux version? I think that the most straightforward approach would be to merge these to the Linux branch and once I'll get it working with MSVC, we might simply rename "Cuneiform Linux" to "Cuneiform core" or something like that and use that as the combined source tree. What do you think?

As I know some (not very massive) changes has been done on the core. I think I can write about new developments and give source codes some days later.

I think that the most straightforward approach would be to merge these to the Linux branch and once I'll get it working with MSVC, we might simply rename "Cuneiform Linux" to "Cuneiform core" or something like that and use that as the combined source tree.

How to implement the support for hOCR output in the native CuneiForm Win32 program? Could you please provide more detailed info? What files of your src package contain this hOCR-support? It looks very important...
